We may have dodged a bullet with this potential ice storm this - TopicsExpress

We may have dodged a bullet with this potential ice storm this weekend across most of the Southeast. Its looking like the moisture is going to move in across the Southeast later than originally projected and give that high pressure system time to move off the coast. Its still somewhat of a close call, but like I mentioned in my article the other day, just minor changes in timing can be the difference between a cold rain and a significant ice storm. With that said, Ill continue to watch this closely and keep you updated. Im watching a potential storm late next week, and it looks very interesting. It could be another one of those close calls, and its something Ill be keeping a very close watch on. I still have some time to watch this and will have details on the site in a day or two. As I talked about in my article last night, the pattern is going to become very active and wet across the southern United States and eventually up the East Coast. At some point, the cold air is going to be in place to bring some of those areas a winter storm. Basically what Im saying is that if you get rain one time, you may get frozen precipitation the next time. There is going to be plenty of moisture pumping across those regions to work with. For those of you who have been following Firsthand Weather a while, you know that I do things differently on this site. When I see a potential winter storm threat lurking, then Im going to talk about it and dig into the meteorology behind it. There are going to be times Im going to be uncertain about some of these forecasts, but I always try to give you an early heads up. Please always use these forecasts responsibly. I will tell you when Im more uncertain or when Im extremely confident about a forecast. In other words, if something catches my attention, youre going to be made aware of it. -Matthew
