We men live, eat, breath, breed, shit, shower, shave, laugh, cry - TopicsExpress

We men live, eat, breath, breed, shit, shower, shave, laugh, cry and die and a few of us will also do escrima. If we are lucky or sometimes unlucky, well find our selfe mentioned in a chronicle or two along the way and theyll call this history. A whole mans life can end up explained away in just a few bylines (an obituary) and if he made enough waves he might even earn an article, or even a book, or even a few, as if we can explain away a mans whole life in just a few hours of reading. Believe me when I tell you that none of us will make it out of this life without more than a few picadillos. None of us. We wont even talk about the many major faux pas that all of us will make. Its just how were made: Were made to sin. When men cast aspersions toward other men-its a great source of personal amusement to me. Hey! Kiss my puwit! Didnt the great one up above us all say that none are worthy of the gates of heaven? So who are you to judge me, or me you? You do yours ari ng lalaki breath and Ill do mine. If you force me to point a finger at you-the whole time mine tries its best to point itself back in my direction and so I try not to point too much. It makes my finger tired. I try my best to keep my finger out of the holes left by a few of my coveted 200 grn. Corbon .45 slugs. Yes, I have anger management issues sometimes, but dont we all? In todays modern world a man can call you an asshole and have it electronically circle the globe in fractions of seconds and it will never really go away they say. Wow! Long after our passing and way into future generations and maybe forever, whats said today gets to circle forever for posterity. It really is a brave new world. The Escrima that I show today on video, may judge me forever. No bad days, no off days, no excuses. Its there for all to see. My very escrima heart and escrima soul is bared for all to see in print and video. How I wish that I had made more effort to tape way more video of my teacher the late great GM Angel Cabales. I also wish that I had put much more of him down on paper to chronicle his life history, thoughts, feelings, challenges and tests of his nerve and skill and anything else that he cared to share. Its not all about his stick or blade skill. There must be things that our up and coming generations could have learned from his trials and tribulations: If they knew of them and how to learn from them. There will always be anger, hatred, stealing, jealousy, death, coveting, danger and destruction. Its just the way things will always be. This is why Escrima is still around. As it is, it is up to my aging generation to put something down on paper or video for our up and coming escrima brothers to look at and hopefully learn from. I actually get criticism about my writing and videos, but I dont do them for my detractors: I do them for the future of escrima. The whole of it is that I can talk the talk and not walk the walk. Really? Decades of training by one of the worlds best escrimadors and I dont even have a chance of hitting you? And this is coming from people trained in our art by Angel Cabales. You talk a lot about Angel Cabales, but you say that one of his Masters is shit? You are stupid as hell and fake as hell about how you feel about our late Master. Too dumb to take what you say another step in logic, but you go on with your bad selves-because if the day comes that my blood is boiling and you threaten me and find yourself even near my stick: It might be a bad day for you. Then your ass will have to cash the check that your big mouth wrote. Thats all I have say about that. My job now days is to push escrima in a positive manner and ignore the politics-however hard that is to do sometimes. Eventually my skill will die with me, as well as small part of my art. My real job now is to attract new escrimadors to Serrada Escrima, but they dont have to come to my art you see. They just have to come to Filipino Martial Arts and Ill be happy. I do want them to try my art of course and to prosper in the art, but if they choose another Filipino Martial Art, but were attracted to FMA because of what they saw me do, than thats good enough for me. I want FMA to continue to prosper. FMA has so much to offer martial arts. We are no longer Brand X: We are now becoming seriously legit, but there just arent enough qualified Instructors and this is what keeps me active. I have to struggle to acquire new students. I dont stick my chest out and say a bunch of dumb shit to attract people to me. You like or dont like what I do. You stay or you go. You are a grown ass man: I dont teach children. My way of teaching is the old way. It is a hard way to learn escrima, but still to this day-one of the best ways. There is a lot of stress and challenge in the way that I teach. With me you are forced to connect the dots on your own-just the way you will be forced to do it in real life. I am not you and few arts are designed specifically for us, but Serrada Escrima is. You teach YOURSELF escrima when you come to me. Your escrima will be only your own. You will have designed your own personalized escrima using Serrada Escrima as a base, that you will come to know very well, because YOU invented it. I teach my students to become escrimadors that will eventually work on automatic mode, because they will be purely themselves. They will become students that can read between the lines and go in and out of the lines at their leisure, they will become true individuals. Serrada Escrima is just a map and you are the destination. Serrada was designed to keep you alive until you transcended. Transcended? Yes! Rise above any system limitations and to be able to really and truly feel the truth of every fractiional moment. Maybe, this is why its hard for me to attract students. Challenging yourself is the greatest challenge of all! But this is how you really learn your art: You really learn about yourself and when you really and truly know your strengths and limitations, then and only then will you be able to defend yourself at your very best. Why waste countless hours attempting things that will never really be yours? Youll know that you are weak under certain conditions and situations. Just dont be there, or plug those gaps with what you do really well. I am pragmatic, but I have to be, because many fights last less than five blows. You better have it when you need it, there may not be a later. Not a time to plug your game up with average. Any way its Saturday in gloomy California. Winter is approaching. Im going to the garage and sewing. Sewing? Yes, I am making stick bags for Christmas. Merry Christmas! Santa Claus may bring a few bags this year to some lucky escrima children who have been good.
