We missed White Cane Safety Day on Oct. 15! Its important to raise awareness for White Cane Safety Day because people with low vision or who are vision-imparied rely on their White Canes to be able to live independently. An increasingly number of people, including drivers, are unaware of what the white cane symbolizes. Look behind you before backing up in mall parking lots or in garaages to make sure that somone with a white cane is not approaching. Be cognizant of those around you and if you hear or see someone using a white cane, know that they arent seeing you so exercise safety on their behalf, especially if you are a driver. Veterans who have lost thier vision as a result of service are among the thousands of blind or visually impaired people relying on white canes for mobility. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_cane &pg=6727,5765715
