We need a constitutional amendment, one thing most people on right and left could agree to, that would: prohibit all politicians and officeholders at state, local, and federal levels from receiving any financial or material support from any corporation or financial institution; prohibit any politician or officeholder from employment with, for, or on behalf of any corporation or financial institution for at least 5 years after leaving office; and link congressional pay to average standard of living so that increases in standard of living results in automatic pay raises and decreases result in pay cuts. Then and only then would politicians and officeholders have incentive to serve the people and to fulfill their Constitutional obligation "to promote the General welfare".
