We need all of your help...prayers...thoughts...input; on this flooding situation at For the Love of Horses Ranch. When we bought this place 3+ years ago, we never thought this would be a mayor concern, but with the changing weather pattern and the filled in ditches on our property...we are faced with a huge problem. The ditches used to be maintained be JV Ranches, who have the water rights in the area...the purpose of the ditches is to reroute tail water from their irrigation ditches back to the river. The side effect was that the run-off from the higher laying land of theirs was also caught by those ditches and moved away from our barn and land/driveway. Water board send us a letter in 2013 about JV coming out to repair the ditches.....nothing happened. I called the board last year and was told that JV was working on something.....nothing happened....called the board and was told that JV rerouted the water and did not use our ditches anymore......now were getting flooded all the time with the heavy rains. We do not own the heavy equipment needed to remedy the situation; we do not have the money to pay someone to do it for us...its to big.....what to do? Where to go next? Our neighbor pulled a ditch using his tractor just before we got flooded the last time; its to narrow...does not hold enough water; we put in railroad ties as a barrier, but the water just goes underneath.....much of the gravel we brought in is washed over by mud........ideas?
