We need the government of Los Angeles to assist in saving The World Stage. Located in Leimert Park this cultural landmark has spawned countless artists. Musicians from around the globe have graced the stage to perform or offer workshops. The World Stage, an extension of the Watts Writers Workshop, has provided writers a supportive venue for readings and performance art for decades. Founded by musician Billy Higgins and poet Kamau Daáood, this music and literary arts organization has served our community by providing extensive arts programing. This cultural institution must survive! It is a safe haven for artists, families and community members to witness, share and learn. WE WANT: • Immediate government intervention to give this artistic sanctuary a guaranteed future which is at least as good as its present conditions. • Acknowledgement that this is a valuable asset to the community
