We need to examine what society is imparting to our youth. As an American, there are certain beliefs that I hold true. A belief in this country and this government. I do not give up my ability to dissent and to exercise my rights through the democratic process or through lobbying or protesting government agencies and their policies. I do have to have some faith that we have elected officials who, for the most part, share my beliefs and values and will fight for them. If we find them to be wrong or imperfect, we can vote them out or work to change policies and laws. To arbitrarily decide to change without first working the system, without fully rasping the big picture is wrong. I know, I learned to be better than that. Snowden is from a generation of immediate gratification personified. To follow the path for change. To follow the path to dispute, was not taught to them. We now have to live with this generation of Americans who were never taught patience. Were never taught compromise. Were never taught to put country before self. The passage, Ask not what..... is not within their concept. It is now, what can the country do for me, but not have me pay extra for it. Where do we go from her. How do we get back to the values that made this country great. Self sacrifice for the greater good. Belief and trust in government. We the people, not me the independent. Tough nut to crack. Does anyone have an answer or suggestion?
