We need to learn to make each other welcome. In the current system we have created we build ways to make each other unwelcome. We say that if you dont have the things that we designate as important you are not welcome. We have made this a specialized art form and tell each other that we are only welcome on particular terms, you are welcome if you have this skill set, you are welcome if you are this beautiful, you are welcome if you have this much money and power, and so on. But the unspoken corollary of this is that unless you fit into a specialized zone you are not welcome here at all. As the 1% extract from us the value we contribute from our work and creativity they also withdraw the welcome. So today the numbers of Americans that are unwelcome, that are not welcome, is swelling into a vast sea of rejected humanity. We who occupy this sea must start creating welcome because that, in its essence, is survival. We must evaluate the resources that we have available in America and then decide how we can use it to make everyone welcome. Just that simple change will end the cruelty, the isolation, the poverty, the crime, the illness, the wars inherent in our culture. You are welcome - thats our motto, if we want to survive.
