We need to put the week end behind us. The media would want us to - TopicsExpress

We need to put the week end behind us. The media would want us to continue to discuss the lone brick and water balloon until our ears drop off. Its incumbent on us to see them for what they are: Isolated incidents of aggression that have absolutely nothing to do with the majority who are and have been peacefully protesting for the abolishment of Irish Water and the full restoration of Irelands water supply into public hands whereby it will continue to be funded through general taxation as it has for the last 20 years. That should be our goal, nothing more and nothing less. Therefore, I believe, and this is my opinion alone, it may not reflect the other admins opinions on this page or anyone else, but I really think that people should forget Enda and Joan and any other Minister who would go out acting as Venus fly traps that pull the protesters into confrontations with Gardaí while the media have a field day selling the ant-hill sized optics as if the sky of democracy was falling in on us all. Its all a grotesque play and the protesters are unwitting players in it all... I say we should ignore them. Let them have their events for we will have ours on the 10th. That is where we ALL need to focus our energies now. We ALL need to pull together because we do have this Government on the ropes and we need to finish it once and for all, even if it takes 20 marches because the key issue everyone needs to understand is this: Regardless of what attractive fixed charge you are being sold now, it has nothing to do with the charge itself. It has everything to do with you contracting with a Utility by either signing up or paying a bill and once you do this you will become legally bound to pay for your water until you die. Once contracted, they can and will raise these charges as they see fit because they have to meet a minimum funding threshold as set by the EU that allows them to borrow off balance sheet from the Markets to fund their operation. This minimum threshold will need to be funded by you, on top of the loans and the interest rates of same, regardless of how well you conserve in the future. If you think your bill will remain under €200, you are simply in denial... Another very important aspect we must never ignore comes with TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership ) on the horizon and combined with the EU Competition rules regarding a Commercial Utility, if the EU believes that Irish Water is a monopoly (and they most certainly will because it is), they can order our Government to sell it to private interests, or at the very least open up the markets to deregulation and other private operators despite whatever assurances Government Ministers would give you now because it would be considered unfair and anti-competitive in a market place for a utility. Our Gas and Electricity have already suffered a similar fate despite the Governments tenuous ownership of said companies which continue to be sold off piece by piece. Remember, it has nothing to do with charges. Our biggest threat is the very existence of Irish Water as a corporate entity and the market for our water that it creates and that should be our focus until the threat is neutralised... That is my opinion. Its up to you to agree or disagree as you see fit.. ~Belenus
