We need to stop pretending that no one wants to kill. The staff at the Mobile AL pound wanted to and they did. Killing is a choice. But to shelters that kill and the large national groups like HSUS, PETA and the ASPCA which defend them, the crime is not that millions of animals like Porkchop are needlessly killed every year; it is not the many loving relationships between people and animals that are irretrievably lost; and it is not even the heartbreak of witnessing abuse, cruelty and killing at their local shelters volunteers and rescuers have to endure; to them, the great crime is when No Kill advocates refuse to pretend otherwise and when they call it for what it is. Killing an animal is not an act of love. It is an act of violence.
