We need to watch how were leading our community. Its necessary for our community to understand that its becoming more challenging for dance studios and dance teachers across the country to do their job properly. We all agree that parents want the best for their children, that is a given. Why wouldnt they, they love their children. Its when the perspective of what is best for their children, when distorted, that can become the real danger. Remember, its about the education, opening childrens minds to creativity, to support each other as a family, to freely express their feelings in a safe place, to escape the aggressive challenges that life has a tendency to hand them and to encourage and build self worth. Growing up Dance was the one space that allowed me to be me. How did a space for creation, beauty, and self expression become a space of jealousy, competition, and pressure. We need to watch how we inspire our young children to grow up in our society. Bring awareness to your dance communities with as much love as possible. Its not about the fame, its about the quality and integrity of life that matters. Promote that! This thought is brought about by the chain reaction of a show like Dance Moms.
