We now are in the last three days of 2014. The calculation for the extent of the year is arbitrary. The numbers do not mean anything. Nevertheless, we do take time in these days very often to review the past year. The importance of the review is to recall our errors, but that is not popular anymore. It is good to recall our successes and achievements. I think we are ending 2014 in recognition of the fact that we still have a very long way to go. For one thing, the American people themselves allowed the dissolution of American democracy. Democratically-minded leadership needs to renew and re-enliven the passion for democracy on which the nation was founded. There is no doubt of the fact that we have fallen very short of coming close to resolving the problems of race in the US, which is also inclusive of white privilege. The American people have permitted the GOP to pursue the class war which they began in 1870. It is more severe now than ever in the past. People of faith and people of good purpose have much to do. In the meantime, the people have allowed the GOP to surrender the nation to the control of corporations - the very place at which the Declaration of Independence came about.
