We often hear Christians cautioning other Christians to avoid close relationships with unbelievers. I find this to be very odd. Jesus did the opposite. He had meals with the worst of sinners of His day. Having a meal with someone meant a lot in Jesus day; it implied s willingness to be with them. We are called to be in the world without being of it. To avoid people screams self righteous at them. We become more like the Pharisees (the ones Jesus told us to avoid) when we set up fences between us and the world around us.
