We often hear Malayan leaders in the Federal Government that Malaysia as a country will attain a developed status come 2020. It bewilders me to think if they really meant to include Sabah and Sarawak or just Malaya alone.I am incline to believe that they are referring to Malaya. With hefty budgetary allocations every year since Malaysia was formed to develop the states in Malaya for modernity in infrastructures and standard of living, allocations for Sabah and Sarawak are pittance in comparison. I cannot possibly envisage that Sabah and Sarawak can be 1/3 of a developed status come 2020 when our infrastructures like roads are yet to reach large sections of our people, the conditions of roads are at best deplorable,electricity and water are still a luxury to many, thatched houses and long houses abound. I always believe that Tunku Abdul Rahman had a hidden agenda when he proposed to form Malaysia and that was to exploit Sabah and Sarawak of its rich resources to fund the various development projects in Malaya while we continue to enjoy the suffrage of colonialism. A 50 years reality of sadness.
