We often talk about preparing for severe weather. How does NWS Nashville prepare? Here are a few items on our list today... Increase staffing: usually we have 2 meteorologists on duty each shift, but we are already ramping up, and may have 7 or 8 meteorologists in the operations area later today. Plan for lots of phone calls and media interviews Monitor social media for storm reports Have a technician on duty throughout the event to keep equipment running Get lots of snacks Prepare for a special weather balloon launch at midday. Extra coordination with the Storm Prediction Center and surrounding offices Provide detailed briefings to emergency managers and other officials Keep our focus on Job #1: issuing warnings that could save lives We are planning ahead for severe weather!
