We pray God to bless us all with wisdom in our finances. We want to be givers, we need to take care of ourselves and family, we would like a little for enjoyment but avoid extravagance - may God help us to find the right balance. As we have noted before - it is the love of money that is the root of all evil ~ I Timothy 6:10. When we picture that statement in our minds, we often see a wealthy person with a greedy heart. The exact opposite can be true as well - the person in poverty can be just as much a lover of money. It is a matter of the heart and one that all of us need to avoid. We know the pressure of the world would have us view finances in a way opposite of how God sees them. We know to avoid the extreme of the love of money. We note in that same chapter (v.17) that Paul tells us that God gives us richly all things to enjoy. Yet he prefaces that part of the verse with admonition not to trust in the uncertain riches. Then the next verse tells us to be willing to distribute and be rich in good works. The balance in this is crucial as Paul then states that in doing so we lay up a good foundation for the time to come. This is great wisdom and something each one of us should look into regarding our own situation. Each of us deals with different circumstance and demands. May we all endeavor to be doers of the words we read from I Timothy 6:9-19
