We promised that something exciting is going to happen to the Hall of Fame soon! Thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Cot Campbell for this amazing donation! Dogwood Stable room at Hall of Fame to be unveiled March 16 by Ben Baugh Aiken Standard Online Posted: Wednesday, January 22, 2014 9:37 p.m. It’s fitting that the likely unveiling of the Dogwood Stable room at the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum will be the same day that Palace Malice is honored as the 2013 Aiken Trained Horse of the Year. The event is scheduled for March 16, 2014, the day after the first leg of the Aiken Triple Crown, the Aiken Trials. The room will pay homage to the Aiken-based Thoroughbred racing operation, its vaunted success, recognizing the nearly 80 stakes winners that have been campaigned in the familiar and well-loved, green-and-yellow polka dot silks. The Aiken Trained Horse of the Year ceremony will start at 12:30 p.m. Renovation of the room, located on the second floor of the museum, is expected to begin soon. “I can’t express how privileged and honored the Hall of Fame is to receive this amazing gift from Mr. and Mrs. Campbell,” said Lisa Hall, supervisor of the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum. “It certainly shows how much he cares and loves Aiken that he wants to share his successes with not only those who live in Aiken, but with the many visitors that come to Aiken each year.” The room will feature memorabilia that spans more than 40 years, allowing visitors the opportunity to relive some of Dogwood Stable’s greatest moments. The preponderance of the items featured in the room have been donated by W. Cothran and Anne Campbell to the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum. “This puts us in a league that we hadnt planned to be in,” said Cot Campbell, Dogwood Stable president, in a phone interview. “Weve donated photos, trophies and memorabilia. We’re honored to be included with the luminaries who are part of the museum. I’m also very grateful and appreciative to the donor who is making the construction of the room possible.”
