We pull dogs and foster dogs all the time, but occasionally in Rescue there is a dog that calls to your heart from the first moment you see their picture. A few days ago Renee saw a Boston mix crouched down the feet of an animal control officer looking scared and alone. We talked about her and decided, no, we just agreed to get our numbers back down, we have too many still here waiting on transport and they need to move on first, and a mix is just too hard to adopt out. No, no room at the inn as hard as that is to say with dogs dying in shelters every day and you know what you just committed that dog to because if you dont do something, who will? But, Renee couldnt let Cora go, so Saturday just before they closed she went ahead and called the shelter just to see if anyone had stepped up. No, they said shes still here. Shes 31 lbs, heart worm positive, and very pregnant. So today Renee went to pick up Cora. Theres another one here they said. Shes an owner surrender and in bad shape, can you take her? And so Renee is bringing home two new fosters today. Please welcome Miss Cora Kerry the Boston/Frenchie/Dachshund/Bulldog/Pittie/SomethingorOther & Miss Frenchie La Roux the French Bulldog. Cora in addition to being pregnant and heart worm positive also has burn like scars along her rib cage. She was picked up as a stray and I wouldnt want to know what her life was before being rescued. Shes only a year old. Roux has some of the worst ears weve ever seen. They are so inflamed with infection and swelling they are literally sealed shut. Her skin has a severe yeast infection making her patchy and furless and stinky. The only thing she wants to do is be held like shes clinging to you with all her might thankful shes been saved. Roux was an owner surrender. Someone had her in their home in this condition. Someone watched her get this way and their solution was to drop her off at the kill shelter. Owner surrenders dont get a mandatory hold. They can be put down immediately for space and Roux, covered in infection was sure to get sick fast, signing her death sentence. Roux is 2 years old. If Cora hadnt called to Renee in her picture, and if Renee hadnt gone straight from work to pick her up today, Roux would have never been seen. Sometimes the universe is looking out for these pups when no one else is. Welcome Cora & Roux. Life gets better from here.
