We really need to get it through our heads, especially those of us who have been around since before social networking, that unfriending someone *does* mean something. If all you are concerned about is stuff showing up in your news feed, then for petes sake, un*follow* them. Unfriending is sometimes necessary, its true. But realize that you send a message by doing so. You tell someone, I do not wish to have this line of communication open to you. You are not welcome in my world. unfollowing someone means they *do not* show up in your news feed, and it *does not* affect them at all. Its not difficult. I can show you how if you need to know. But please, stop telling yourself that unfriending someone is no big deal. Yes, you have a right to do it. I understand. But you dont have to step on someones feelings (which you *will* be doing) if all you want is to quit seeing something they have to say in your personal newsfeed. This has been your netiquette lesson for the day. Please Facebook responsibly.
