We received a beautiful, heartflet message yesterday from Gemma - TopicsExpress

We received a beautiful, heartflet message yesterday from Gemma Cushman and she would like us to share her Message and Poem with you all x We all at Oakmount do know that pets really arent just animals, they are Family x I wanted to express my gratitude. We recently said goodbye to our Molly Dog, an annual visitor to Oakmount for her boosters. Thank you, the staff at Oakmount were amazing, empathic and very understanding. I was very upset, felt a little dramatic but the staff there, the vet, nurse, the reception staff made one of the hardest times, a little bit easier. I cant put it into words. Ive found great comfort in reading sentiments and how others have dealt with losing an animal family member and if you dont mind Id like to leave this poem here for them, in the hope they can derive comfort and understanding as I have through others. Thank you once again! I Should Have Got a Fish I’m not the first person to lose a friend, nor will I be the last But certainly in our home tonight, flags are at half mast We’ll stumble along, reminded of all the things we’ll miss Why did I even get a dog! I should have got a fish! You were my shadow, albeit one with fur and a tail You were my confidant, although there were only my stories to regale But you listened intently, head cocked and eyes wide You accepted me wholeheartedly, and never left my side I always wanted a pal like you, and I’m grateful I got my wish But why did I get a dog! I wouldn’t miss a fish! We shared joy and my food, the latter wasn’t by choice And although you couldn’t speak, your wails and barks were your voice Time is a healer but over time absence becomes apparent It’s only over time, we realise what we have and what we haven’t Who will make me do silly voices, who will sit at my feet? Who do I complain to now and who will watch me eat? A puppy cannot replace you and people aren’t that good to squish But I’m thankful that you were mine Molly Dog! You were much better than a fish.
