We received a question regarding undocumented #TBI prior to 2007 based on an article that appeared in TIME: ti.me/1hTOHTN. While we cant change the past, we are certainly committed to ensuring that all service members are properly screened, diagnosed and treated now and in the future. The Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center works with partners at U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to improve and standardize the way in which concussed service members are identified and treated. The early detection of concussion leads to early treatment opportunities, which is a high priority for the Defense Department. We work with providers to improve the TBI screenings service members receive at various stages of their military career. These screenings help identify brain injuries that were undiagnosed or unreported at the time of an injury. In addition to improving TBI diagnosis and treatment, DVBIC develops, provides and distributes educational materials for both military and civilian providers, families, service members and veterans. Learn more about DVBIC and the centers ongoing efforts on their website: dvbic.dcoe.mil.
