We received our grant! New siding for Branch 17! Springhill, Joggins legions get funding support from province Published on July 25, 2014 HALIFAX – A pair of Cumberland County legions are receiving funding under the province’s Legion Capital Assistance Program. The funds were announced Friday by Municipal Affairs Minister Mark Furey with 17 legions provincewide getting support. Branch 17 in Springhill is receiving $7,118 for new siding, while Branch 4 in Joggins is getting $4,581 for a heating system upgrade. Government is investing $122,000 under the program to help legion branches upgrade heating systems and washrooms, repair roofs and siding, and replace doors and windows. Legion members across the province dedicate countless hours supporting local projects and programs for seniors and youth, and in service of veterans, said Furey. Legions open their facilities to us all for meetings, activities and events, and they play an important role in their communities. The program provides up to 50 per cent of eligible costs, to a maximum contribution of $10,000. Cost-shared grants awarded through this program are invaluable in assisting Royal Canadian Legion branches to remain accessible and sustainable to best serve our veterans and our communities, said Ronald Trowsdale, Royal Canadian Legion Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command president.
