We received the following statement from Sen. Barbara Boxer (CA-2) - TopicsExpress

We received the following statement from Sen. Barbara Boxer (CA-2) in response to the petition No pay for Congress during the shutdown (petitions.moveon.org/sign/tell-congress-you-have), which you signed. We thought youd like to see it. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Friend: Thank you for contacting me via a MoveOn.org petition about the recent government shutdown, which has thankfully come to an end. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue. In the future, if you would like to write to me directly, I encourage you to visit my Senate website at boxer.senate.gov/en/contact/policycomments.cfm. After 16 long days, bipartisanship in the Senate led America out of a painful, partisan, self-inflicted crisis. Relief doesnt begin to describe my feelings as the Senate came together not a moment too soon. Closing the government and taking us to the brink of default cost our countrys economy $24 billion – all because Republicans wanted to deny affordable health care to millions of Americans. During the shutdown, I worked to show my colleagues just how painful the shutdown was to the American people and how we should never again go through another government shutdown or even a flirtation with a devastating default. There are many issues that divide Republicans and Democrats, but the one thing I trust this outcome ensures is that we will always keep the government open, pay our bills, and work together. Again, thank you for writing to me. Please feel free to contact me again at boxer.senate.gov/en/contact/policycomments.cfm
