"We recently experienced the outer fringes of a hurricane in our area. High winds whipped through the trees, leaving our yards filled with broken limbs, sticks, and leaves. For several hours I walked around — picking up the storm debris and placing it in a pile by the road. Several times after I thought I had cleared a section of the yard, I would turn around or walk back over it again only to find more sticks and pine cones. The thought occurred to me that the sin in our lives is often like the debris in our yard. It is hard to see ourselves as we really are. Sometimes we look, but we don’t see, or don’t want to see, what is there. We need a fresh perspective. The process of examining our lives helps us to gather up the sins we have missed. The good news is that God helps us look at our lives with new eyes and open hearts. When we gather up our sins, mistakes, and failures and give them to God, God cleans up our lives. And like the town crew who faithfully gathered up what was left by the road, God takes away our sins forever." ~Joey Yow, The Upper Room
