We recently unveiled a newly refurbished facade of a lumber barons mansion that greets visitors in our permanent galleries. Since the museum opened in 1989, the facade had been painted yellow with brown trim. However, research being done about the same time at the Hackley House in Muskegon, which the facade represents, revealed the house had a 13-color exterior paint scheme in the style of the Victorian painted lady. Staff from the museum visited the Hackley House this spring for more research, and began repainting the facade to closely match the actual house in Muskegon. The refurbished exhibit was completed in time for this falls school group tours. Thanks to John McGarry III and Dani LaFleur from Lakeshore Museum Center in Muskegon for visiting us last week to see the completed project!
