We run a program of BHS training; BHS Horse Knowledge, Care and Riding Stage 1 The next course is planned to start in July. Tuesday evenings - 1.5 hour sessions 45 min riding - flatwork only and 45 mins Stable Management 6-7.30pm Cost £25 per session This is a great course for people planning to buy a horse and wanting to ensure a solid foundation to their knowledge. So even if you do not want to take the exam, this might be the course for you. For those wanting to work in the equine field in the future its a great starting point. We will be covering all aspects of Stage 1, theory and practical, ridden and stable management. This qualification will provide the holder with the competencies to apply basic principles of horse care. Working under supervision, the holder will have basic knowledge and practice of looking after a well-mannered horse in the stable and at grass. The holder will be capable of riding an experienced horse or pony in an enclosed space. Holders of the Stage 1 Horse Knowledge, Care and/or Riding Certificate will be able to progress to BHS Stage 2 Certificate in Horse Knowledge, Care and/or riding. The Stage 1 certificate is recognised in its own right and provides a benchmark standard to employers. It is also a component part of the British Horse Society Assistant Instructor Certificate. The BHS Stage exams are made up from units and small qualifications. Candidates may choose to sit all the units leading to a qualification in one day, or they may prefer to “pick and mix” units.
