We said a sad “Good Bye” to Jackson, our gentle giant, as he passed over the Rainbow Bridge this morning at 11:30 AM. As many of you know, he had been suffering the past few years with severe arthritis, and had also endured TPLO surgery on his ACL and cataract surgery. Over the past few months his hips had deteriorated and he had not been able to stand on his own for about 2 months. He had also become incontinent, very lethargic and short of breath and this week the tests showed that was probably due to Splenic Neoplasia and also a mass around his heart. We had him evaluated this week by a Radiologist and a Cardiologist in addition to Dr. Zebowsky at Pouncey Tract Vet Hospital. We considered surgery for the tumor on his spleen, but the Vet advised us that the malignancy ratio for a dog his age (12- 14) is about 70% so he would have had to endure another surgery which most probably would not have provided much improvement to his quality of life, considering the hip issues and lack of mobility and the possibility of the cancer advancing. So we decided to help him to a better place. We will miss him forever and it will be very hard to get up each morning and not see his beautiful face and his warm smile. Bye, bye Jackson. We will meet again in a better place. Thanks to Dr. Zebowsky, Dr. Morris and all the staff at Pouncey Tract Vet Hospital in Glen Allen for the excellent care and attention they have given Jackson and our family.
