We sat down as a family and researched ALS and as Australians call it, MND and wanted to understand this debilitating disease better. Both kids have been nominated to do the ice bucket challenge and decided together that although this challenge is to bring awareness to the disease, we would prefer to donate money to the cause. I am a little disappointed that some are doing the challenge and not realizing that they still need to donate money or even understanding what ALS is. A donation, we feel, is being one of the only ways we can help hopefully find a cure. We do not begrudge anyone at all for taking part in this challenge (for the right reasons!) but for US the awareness is in researching and understanding this horrible, horrible disease and being aware why the ice is used in this challenge and having the knowledge now of being able to communicate this with others - this being our awareness. We made our donation tonight and feel proud that we made this decision and hope that many others can help in there own way also xx
