We saw great animals get adopted by responsible pet owners, - TopicsExpress

We saw great animals get adopted by responsible pet owners, especially when those animals came to us as strays with no one to call their own. Weve seen many a kitten come to us with no mother, and yet our staff would become the mothers of these kittens, feeding them round the clock and nurturing them to beat all odds of survival. Wed see these same kittens be adopted to families and in turn have photos sent back to us, of happy grown cats relaxing in a comfy chair at their new home. In the world of animal welfare, we see many sad and desperate situations. Through Animal Control Services, we keep dogs found running at large safe and off the streets where dangers of vehicles and other animals lurk. For the cats, we still try to rescue, even though there is no animal control, where it is needed the most. We attempt along with other private groups to be a safety net for an abandoned cat population that is out of control. We feed and care for all of them and wait for their owners to come and claim their beloved pet. But sometimes, they never come and we see what wonderful personalities these cats and dogs have. They become ours, but only temporarily. We have some great staff, and we thank them for taking such good care of our animals. Without their dedication to the animals, we would be at a loss. Some we can help but others are beyond our control. We want to show you the successes we have achieved in the last year rather than the sadness; to show you how your donation makes a positive impact on the lives of the animals in the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue every, single day. In just the last twelve months, we have brought almost eight hundred animals through our doors. This includes not only cats and dogs but guinea pigs, rabbits, and hamsters. We had many happy adoptions and the incredible part is that spay and neuter is included with those adoptions, helping to reduce the unwanted pet population. We are proud of this achievement. Here are just a couple of the remarkable animals who found their forever homes: Meet Atlas. This small kitten was given his name due to his great strength in overcoming the abuse he suffered. His eye was burned and had to be surgically removed and much veterinary care was needed. A call to help went out and our donors answered. Not only was there enough to help Atlas, but there were funds left to help some other injured animals who required emergency care. Thanks to these donations, a separate medical fund has been established to help with emergency situations such as this. Your donations to this fund are crucial and go directly to those who need it most. Atlas has a very happy life now. He lives with the animal care attendant who removed him from the awful situation he was found in. What better way to start his new beginning than in the arms of the one who rescued him! This is Tilly, an eight-year-old Pomeranian. Tilly was found running in the street, unwanted, with some major dental problems. He was brought to the shelter where a very caring donor fell in love with the little dog. She decided she must help Tilly and made sure that everything he required was taken care of, including the extraction of numerous teeth, to ensure that Tilly could find the forever, loving home she so much deserved. Little Tilly did find that home and he now bounces happily beside his owner everywhere she goes. Your importance as a donor is difficult to put into words but as you can see from the stories above, you are instrumental in the lives of the animals that call the shelter home. With minimal guaranteed funds during the year, we depend almost solely on your contributions. But it is not “us” who depend on these funds. It is the many, many animals that come through our doors every year requiring food, shelter, warmth, veterinary care, love and forever homes. We are not saving them; you are. We are caring for them but you are saving them by supporting our work. This is why we are all still here today, for the love of animals.
