We should be proud of our national language bahasa malaysia a - TopicsExpress

We should be proud of our national language bahasa malaysia a beautiful , cultured and civilized language reflecting our eastern culture . It is interesting to note that advanced countries such as France , Germany , Switzerland , Holland , Russia , Korea , Japan , Taiwan and China will always use their national language but they will provide translators for the foreign press and media . If we do not defend our own national language , then what other country will defend it . We must not give the false impression that we do not have our own national language . To fully appreciate the culture of a nation , you must learn its language because not all traditions and customs can be translated into English and we will not be giving our culture full justice if we were to simplify it in another language the so called Lost In Translation phenomenon . Our language is also our culture and we need to promote it globally and I feel now is the best time , we must force the foreign media to learn our language in order to love our culture and I think they would appreciate this gesture . As an engineer myself I feel that it is a misconception that only by mastering english that you will also master science and technology which is a fallacy . Pardon me if I am wrong but we all know of certain countries that were former ( Carribiean , West Indies ) and even current colonies of Britain who are fluent in English but sadly are weak or poor in science and technology . In fact China is now catching up fast to America in terms of science and technology by developing its own platform such as the Chinese Operating System to replace the Google Android and launching its own satellites to replace the American GPS and the EUROPEAN Galilieo ALL THIS BY USING THEIR OWN CHINESE LANGUAGE . If you have had the honour to visit the Boeing plant in Seattle , or Xerox PARC in Palo Alto , or MIT or Princeton you will quickly realise that the majority of the researches are ethnic Chinese . So what if in the future China becomes the worl leader in science and technology , do we then change our education policies and implement PPSMC ( Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran Sains dan Matematik dalam bahasa Cina ) , and when some African country becomes the world leader in science and technology do we then again change our education policies to PPSMA (Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran Sains dan Matematik dalam bahasa Afrikana ) or to whatever the flavor of the month is ??? No we must stand steadfast and implement the PPSMM ( Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran Sains dan Matematik dalam bahasa Malaysia ) because then and only then can we ever hope of becoming a world leader in science and technology . As Michael Phelps (winner of 8 olympic gold medals in Beijing 2008 ) once said I do not want to be the second Mark Spitz ( winner of 7 olympic gold medals in Munich 1976 ) , but I want to be the first Michael Phelps .
