We should remember who our true friends are- On November 27th, 1777 the Sultan of Morocco, Muhammad III became the first Head of State to officially recognize the United States of America as a independent country by including it in a list of countries to be given open access to Moroccos ports. A few weeks later on December 20th, Morocco became the first country to give the United States a naval salute (politically very important). The Moroccan–American Treaty of Friendship was signed in 1786 by Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and Muhammad III and remains in force to this day - making it the longest unbroken treaty relationship in U.S. history. In these days of darkness and hatred, sometimes its good to be reminded that we have friends that have always been there for us- Giving us yet something else to be Thankful for!
