We spend 1/3 of our lives sleeping, or at least we should. A good nights sleep is essential to good health, so I am VERY picky about using all natural materials at nighttime, both on my bed and on my body. I know that the use of synthetic materials can have a tremendously negative effect on our sleep and our health. I recently bought some 100% cotton sheets when my last ones suddenly ripped. I only have one set since this is not a bed size I am wanting to keep (full size). I have had a difficult time sleeping for the last several nights, and woke up sweating profusely, knowing there is nothing wrong with my body. I thought perhaps the cotton sheets were treated with chemicals so I decided to wash them thoroughly today with HOT water. When I went to make my bed tonight, I decided to double-check the label: 60% cotton, 40% polyester. Needless to say, I am a little bit pissed about the false advertising on these, since they were marketed as being 100% cotton. However, it certainly reinforces how important clothing and bedding are in impacting our bodies and our health.
