We spend the first few years after we leave the nest un-educating ourselves from the habits and myths that didn’t work for our parents and their parents. Even though all of us would like to believe that our parents are these godly figures, they are human just like the rest of us, and are bound to make mistakes. I couldn’t have been luckier than I was for I had remarkable parents but what I learned is that they too passed their traumas down from generation to generation. It takes great courage to break from the past, from the myth that you are small, unseen, unlovable. You are perfect as you are and are here to become better. All of us have great stores of pain that need healing and in order to do so, we need to have the courage to love ourselves first then by extension, everyone we encounter.
