We start the downhill slope to the end of the season this weekend - TopicsExpress

We start the downhill slope to the end of the season this weekend with the 3rd XI playing Urmston. Asked to bat first the Urmston skipper might have hoped for an easier target to chase than 208. With Dalts doing himself a mischief playing a girly sport, Jayy Sandlands took the helm. After losing Matt Kennerley-Ryan and Alex Moore early on the visitors must have thought they were on for bowling us out for a low score as James Blackwood took guard. A quick check on the stats would have revealed Jammers batting average of under 13 for the last five years. This time they were in for a shock (along with most of the cricket world) as Jammer plundered 70 runs. In his post match interview he said he thought he batted for about 150 balls - he can count that far - in reality 87 balls. Well done Jammer. Later on Nicky Trevor smacked a quick 24 and finally another junior squirrel showing his promise, young Will Appleyard got his first senior half century. Excellent work to lose just 6 wickets in the total. In reply Jay and Nyle Jones picked up four a piece, Nyle could have got more had his bowling not been curtailed by him sending down a couple of beamers. Elliot Titch Lane finished Nyles over and picked up a wicket. Urmston 51ao. The twos went to Trinity and as John Sealeys report shows they came second in a close game. Well done to Joe Goodier for collecting his first 50 of the season. Ooh Gary Davies anopther five wicket haul too. Stephen Davies collected his 1000th run (recorded on play-cricket) Fourth place in the table and not far behind the rest. The 1st XI lost the toss in the reverse match, were asked to bat and never really got going apart from Ben Leigh who made a majestic 51*. At the other end....carnage! only Ben, Jack Moran and Peter Davies making double figures in a disappointing effort with the bat. 111ao. It was one of those run chases where it was clear early on that Lady Luck was not with us. Edges through gaps, shots in the air that never went to hand and skip-ratted squirts missing the stumps. Gledders bowled 14 overs for eighteen runs. Benny Istead and Pete picked up wickets and Thomas Hackett was really unlucky in his spell. So a chastening 7 wicket defeat. But with the games below us going our way, the 1st XI are still top by 25 points. Bring on Wirral CC next week!
