We started 2014 in the usual fashion. Fundraising is a huge part for the Friends of the Beausejour Daylily Gardens committee. All our projects are paid for by money raised through fundraising, donations , and from Grants . Our first fundraiser of the year was our Annual Nifty Nag Dinner and Derby April 26 at the Beausejour Legion Hall on Veterans Lane. It was a stellar success! Great food,& good times to be had. Look forward to 2015 Nifty Nag Dinner/Derby April 25 2015. 2014 was the Spring that never came. Cold and wet with snow and more snow/rain was the forecast for most of April and May. Our plant sale was a go but almost didnt happen because of the very late start. Sales were down, but still a very good turn out considering the weather conditions. Look forward to 2015 Spring Plant Sale May 23. We had Jane Seniew the tree lady arborist come out and do a pruning workshop on May 15. It was a very informative session. We hope to run this workshop again in 2015. Dont miss out on this great opportunity! We were very fortunate to hire 2 summer students in 2014. Shannon Ganter and Josh Gotfried . We were also very fortunate to welcome new volunteers Gerri Barylski and Shaunda & Gary Plohman to the Beausejour Daylily Gardens. We always welcome new volunteers part time or full time positions available. In June of 2014 we had our first Boot Sale! We had 14 entries. We had a fun filled day. Annas dougnuts were to die for! Joyce cooked up some delicious hotdogs! A Boot Sale is just another name for a flea market. Unfortunately, not very many people came to check it out so we have decided not to run it in 2015. In June of 2014 we had our first horticultural class for young gardeners. Ms Boechers Grade 3&4 class came to the Gardens June 6 to plant heritage cherry tomato plants. The children learned how to plant and care for their tomato plants. Q & A was held afterwards. The kids did an amazing job! Free Zumba Classes were offered all summer long Thursdays at 7:30 by a fabulous lady Theresa Vergate Courchaine and company. Thank you ladies for your time and expertise. In July we had the pleasure of watching a mother and father killdeer nest on a clutch of eggs in the South/West corner of the Arbour. Visitors from all over came to take pictures of this interesting bird family. We are very fortunate to have many species of birds , insects and amphibians visit and make our gardens their home. Name that Daylily Contest was the talk of the town in August. Look forward to the announcement of the daylilys name in 2015! We sold Summer Sizzle Raffle Tickets $2 each or 3/$5. Winners were announced July 11 in the local newspaper and on our website and facebook pages. Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket, or who helped sell tickets, or who donated prizes for our raffle. August 11 was the day Shaw TV came to do an interview/story of the Beausejour Daylily Gardens and volunteers. We were close to a sell out! Thank you to everyone who came out to support our plant sale. Look forward to September 19 2015 Fall Surplus Plant Sale. In October of 2014 the new owners of Green Oaks Landscaping built us a new pocket garden on the North West corner of the Gardens. It will eventually have a seating area great for meditation and contiplation. New Lilies, Daylilies and Peonies were planted. Looking forward to the new blooms 2015! 2015 will be a very exciting year at the DLG.
