We started today very excited about coming home. The hospital - TopicsExpress

We started today very excited about coming home. The hospital agreed that Claudia is well enough to come home and that it was probably the best option for her. Everything was running like clockwork. The pharmacy were brilliant and once again, the oxygen delivery service were superb. We really cannot fault the ultra efficient service that they provide. Although we were not at home, my Dad was, to take the delivery and by pure chance, her brand new standing frame arrived at the exact same time too so I really cannot wait for Claudia to start using it. It was suggested at around 10am this morning that Claudia would be better off travelling home in an ambulance so that she could lie down and be comfortable as well as the fact that she remains on oxygen. We agreed that being stuck in the back of a Zafira with five other people, a wheelchair, dirty washing, books, crayons and left over shopping wouldnt be too comfortable for her. The ward contacted NSL and we were told the ambulance was booked for around 1pm. Great. Then we were told around 3pm. Not so great. At around 245pm our Nurse checked the ambulance was on time, only to be told that it wouldnt be at QMC before 830pm. I am not very happy that an eight year old little girl, anyones little girl, not just Claudia, who is still poorly and has pneumonia is moved at that time on a Friday night. I rang NSL and I spoke to a really helpful man called Raheem and he tried to talk to control to explain her age, her medical history and her condition but since it was only arranged today by the hospital, they could or would not do it any earlier. I am not sure which. I couldnt help but pick up on the feeling that the issue was more to do with politics and protocol as opposed to anything else. I say this because I kept being told that if we had wanted it earlier, the hospital knows to not arrange it the same day. I did try to say sorry and let them know had we known this was the plan (for her to go home in an ambulance) then I am sure that they would have contacted them yesterday but I was definitely wasting my breath. I know the important thing is that she gets home but when I really am shocked that NSL think it is suitable to bring a child back home at around a half past ten on a Friday night but once more, it is one of those situations where my hands are tied and I cannot actually do anything about it. On the positive, it has helped us make up our mind about using hospital transport in the future.....I think I will just have to come up with another way to transport Claudia about safely and comfortably. I dont suppose that there are any ambulance crews outside QMC reading this who is heading back to Market Rasen?.....if you are, please give a lift Claudia and her Daddy, I am sure you wont get told off for picking up a couple of hitchhikers :-D
