We still do not have CCTV in all care homes. With no visual - TopicsExpress

We still do not have CCTV in all care homes. With no visual proof, whistle blowers working in the care homes, or families dont have a leg to stand on. Until you experience the manipulating ways of a care provider who wants to cover up their failings it will be difficult for you to understand. This is a word of warning for anyone starting their care home journey, as an employee or relative. If you attend meetings always take someone with you and inform them you wish to record the meeting. Always ask for minutes and to have copies given to you as soon as possible - big mistake I made with Cornwall Care Ltd, after making a Freedom of Information Request I read minutes 3 years after the event which were fabricated, false statements and these statements were used as part of their plan to ban me. I have since learned of senior nurses who have had exactly the same experience. Whenever possible obtain photographic evidence. Without it you cannot prove a thing. It is one word against another and often the innocent party is turned into the victim, as the care provider reflects the complaint back at you, making it to be you are the one causing the problem. Photographs do not lie, as is proven with the recent exposure on Cornwall Care by brave whistle blower Toby Abbs. However, even then, you will hopefully see, by the updates over the last 6 days, it has not made anyone spring into action to help those living at Penberthy House, so just try to imagine what it would be like without that photographic proof. Keep a diary, dates, times, who said what to whom. I know none of us should have to be doing this. We should be free to focus on our loved one, we should be free to be able to deliver compassionate, person centred care to the residents. Ruthless care providers stop us being able to do this and no matter how loud we shout, no one with the power to put this right will help. As always the big question it seems for the start of this year is WHY? There are no justified reasons residents should be living in poorly maintained, under staffed care homes, some being subjected to neglect and abuse, especially when it is is known about by those with the power to put it right.
