We still have so many special needs pets and older pets that are so deserving of great homes. Please check them out, and spread the word for them! Do you notice anything wrong with this beautiful, happy dog? Does he look disabled, or like he needs assistance in any way? He looks just perfect, doesnt he? Well, he is perfect. His name is Teddy and he was adopted from us about 2 1/2 years ago. Teddy came to us from Alabama when he was found as a stray. Teddy was a matted, emaciated mess when he went in to the shelter down south and also seemed a bit confused and lost. Luckily, a wonderful rescue group got Teddy out of the overcrowded shelter where Teddy would have been facing the gas chamber in a few days, and sent him up to us at Popcorn Park. When Teddy arrived, the first thing that our veterinarian discovered was that he was blind. Not just cloudy vision or some cataracts.....100% blind. He was also full of heartworm, suffering with severe entropion in one eye which caused him a great deal of pain, had hip dysplasia, arthritis, and a severe upper respiratory infection. Teddy was taken to a specialist for his eyes, who determined that he was not blind since birth but rather, he lost his eyesight due to severe malnutrition. There was nothing that could be done to restore his vision, but we could have surgery for his entropion to relieve his pain. We were so thankful to have our Res-Q Fund, which enabled us to get Teddy the medical treatment that he needed to finally live a more comfortable life. There is never a lack of animals in need that our Res-Q Fund helps. Although he suffered so much throughout his life, his vibrant, loving personality would just melt anyones heart so naturally, many of our staff fell instantly in love with Teddy. He was adopted by one of us and now lives a wonderful, happy, healthy life where he will never have to worry about being lost, hungry, alone, mistreated or abandoned, ever again. But this video is not all about my dog Teddy folks.....this is about dogs and cats like Teddy that are waiting in our facility, and other shelters, for wonderful homes of their own. These pets, the special needs pets, dont really have needs that are special at all. Teddy is 9 1/2 years old now and as you can see, hes spry as a puppy and negotiates his way around his home and yard perfectly fine. Sure he has arthitis, sure he bumps into things from time to time, but he is happy, healthy, and HOME. We have several pets at our facility like Teddy that get overlooked constantly. We have Brenda and Sharyn, two kitty sisters that are about 7 years old. Brenda has had her eyes removed and Sharyn has partial vision. We have Kozy and Tupelo Honey, a cattle dog pair. Kozy is also 100% blind. We have India, a young pit/dalmatian mix that is 100% deaf. We have Chelsea, an 8 year old pit mix that has severe arthritis from having all of her legs broken. We have Cici and Paco, a chihuahua pair that are about 7 years old. Cici is 100% deaf. And of course, we have many older cats and dogs that are 8, 9, 10, some even older, that are overlooked because people dont want to adopt them, only to lose them a couple of years later. Or they are afraid of adopting a pet that is blind or deaf, because they think it may inconvenience them in some way. Every single one of these pets deserves a home and a family. Theyll be fine with their disabilities. Animals are so much tougher and more resilient than we are and they adjust to their circumstances so much better than we would. They will manage just fine in your home, as long as theyre given the love and support that they need. Thats all they need- love. And every single one of them deserves that. Please open your heart and home to a special needs pet or an older pet, and give them the life that theyve always dreamed of. The love and devotion that you will get from them in return is priceless. youtu.be/fRR5wtMaj1Q
