We talk so much about parenting but there is really another role - TopicsExpress

We talk so much about parenting but there is really another role that is just as important that we forget: let me call it off-springing. A relationship is two ways. We are our parent’s children and expect them to be parents always, but we forget that we have to be active offsprings as well. The act of offspringing my parents and in turn expecting my children to be active offsprings is natural. There is great responsibility on offsprings as well, especially as parents age. Being an active offspring also means growing into who you are meant to be, to step away from your parents, to be able to differ from them respectfully without losing the entire relationship. To parents it also means to teach the child to offspring by modeling. To be able to show my love and respect for my parents or and if I don’t have a good relationship with them then to at least work through my issues with them in an active not passive way thus modeling a path for my offspring.
