We told you it was coming. Now it’s here. The 2015 Dodge Charger - TopicsExpress

We told you it was coming. Now it’s here. The 2015 Dodge Charger Hellcat just made its official debut on Woodward Ave. in still-soggy Detroit. It’s everything we expected it to be. Packing the supercharged Hellcat HEMI V8, the super-duper Charger spits forth the same 707 hp as Challenger Hellcat, with all the attendant upgrades. The 15.4 inch, 6-piston Brembos up front are the biggest brakes ever fitted to a Dodge. The Charger Hellcat is indeed the world’s most powerful sedan, and the M5 crowd has good reason to think twice before flexing at stoplights. How come? It’ll do the quarter in 11 seconds flat on street rubber (drag radials should put it into the 10s, just like the Challenger). 0–60 takes just 3.7 ticks. Top speed? 204 mph. Dodge says it “redefines practicality.” Well, yeah. t’s rear-drive only, and the monster V8 is connected to an 8-speed automatic fitted with wider gearing and a different clutch pack than the standard 8-speed. No stick—sorry, guys. Dodge says that’s due to two things: lack of demand and packaging issues. All Chargers get a new differential for 2015, but the Hellcat has gets a different propshaft and halfshafts. The suspension is fundamentally the same as one in the regular SRT Charger, with Hellcat-specific adjustments to the springs and valves. At full throttle, the Charger Hellcat will empty its gas tank in 13 minutes. Because its longer than the Challenger, the Charger Hellcat 0.35 drag coefficient is 12% lower than the Challenger, which is what enables the higher top end. As with the Hellcat Challenger, Dodge supplies the “Choose Your Own Adventure” red and black keyfobs. The red one unlocks all 707 horses. Using the black one limits it to “just” 500. The exhaust is the same one fitted to the regular SRT—2 3/4-inch with a butterfly valve between the resonators. Put it in track mode, and the valves are locked open to deliver maximum roar.We snagged some video as the Dodge folks backed the Hellcat out of Vinsetta Garage (where the unveiling took place) and moved it to the street for some additional photography. Even at idle, it sounds like it wants to take every other super-sedan’s lunch money. https://youtube/watch?v=xBWG71pZBUo
