We took Dimitri (who was found a few months ago wandering in the middle of a street blind, starving, sick and having seizures) a wonderful lady rescued him but didnt have the financial ability to take him to the vet. She contacted us and we agreed to help. She took him to our vet where he underwent tests to figure out what was wrong. He came back positive for cryptococcosis which is a fungal infection that affects the nasal passage and brain. That was the cause of his seizures and blindness. He was started on medications and the seizures stopped within a few days He was on the medication for three months and after his treatment he tested negative. We thought he was out of the woods and he was adjusting to his Lifetime Care Foster home and playing with his new best friend Max (who is FIV+ and diabetic). Then his foster mom noticed his right eye looked strange so off to the eye specialist yesterday. It was determined that the eye was causing him discomfort and had severe inflammation (called uveitis) which can cause cancer and the lens had become detached. Sadly after all he has been through he now has to have the eye removed on Monday. We know he will come through fine and be back to his playful and wonderful self in no time. Dimitri asks for you to please keep him in your prayers on Monday when he undergoes this surgery. Thank you!!
