We used to run coffee mornings from the Barugh Green Club. We had collections, raffles, bring and buy sales - anything to raise money for the single lads who got nothing from anywhere. My biggest memory was going round the village collecting food for them and the only one who refused was a deputys wife who had a single lad working at the pit. All the pensioners gave us something but not her. Needless to say the parcels stopped going to her house. Lots of WABers sharing their memories of the miners stikes. Join in here:
