We very nearly lost one of our Keets this evening (guinea fowl - TopicsExpress

We very nearly lost one of our Keets this evening (guinea fowl chick), I was collecting the hens porridge dishes this afternoon and I found one of the brown Keets lying at the bottom of the coop ramp motionless, barely breathing, cupped it in my hands with its head poking out and blew my hot breath onto its body, I then went to one of my old diving cylinder which was a 50% nitrox mix (50% oxygen instead of our normal 21% that we breathe) put its head in the outlet valve and held its body in my hands, continually blowing my hot breath on its body, then it started responding, taking more and more breaths, as the enriched oxygen entered its body, I was relieved when it tried to stand and then took it up to the house and filled a syringe with water and wet its beak, it drank some, I was still cupping it in my hands and blowing my hot breath over its body, I then held it in one hand, drip feeding water with the other and putting my mouth over the chick and breathing my hot breath to keep it warm, I then was comfortable enough and took it into Barbara Mama-Hen Mladek who was able to make up a hot water bottle and get more heat into its body, it worked, we heated its body even more, we got the other chick and mum into the coop, then got our poor little chick under her mum, tonight the chick is doing well
