We want to make our oceans safe for animals. Help us make a #seachange >> bit.ly/XOrDQj Experts have confirmed that the cause of death of the rare leatherback turtle found off the coast of Scotland was due to being caught in lost or discarded creel ropes. This magnificent creature, the fourth to be found dead in our waters in the last two weeks, most likely drowned after becoming entangled and unable to reach the surface for air. An estimated 640,000 tonnes of ghost fishing gear enters our oceans globally every year and these rare leatherback turtles are just some of the victims. It can take up to 600 years for the plastics used in fishing gear to break down, which has a huge impact on our environment and our marine wildlife.
