We wanted to set everyones mind at ease if we could. The hammerhead in this video was hooked off the end of the T head of our pier which is over 800 feet from the seawall plus however far out the guy cast his line(maybe 100 more feet). As the guy reeled in the shark, it swung around the T head and moved closer to the pilings of the pier. The pilings are covered with barnacles and will cut your line easily, so he pulled the shark along the side of the pier and finally around the back corner where, as you can see in the video, is close to the shore. Sharks of that size are not ever seen anywhere near the beach like that unless they are hooked and pulled in by a fisherman. There are very small sharks near the beach, but they are usually less than one foot in length and they pose no threat to any person. Shark attacks are a rare occurrence. There have been only 38 recorded shark attacks in Texas since 1837 and only 4 fatal attacks ever, the last one being in 1962. We hope this might make you feel a little better about swimming in the ocean. Here is the link to the shark attack statistics https://flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/sharks/statistics/GAttack/mapusa.htm Thanks for watching yall and we hope to see you out on the pier soon!! Maybe you can catch a shark of your own
