We wanted to share information about a family of 7 who moved in to the Anderson Fire Rescue House this week. The family consists of mom, dad, and 5 children ranging in age from 15 to 3 years old. During the most recent storm, the children were asleep in the upstairs bedrooms, and the parents were on the front porch watching the storm approach. The parents heard a very loud, very close “boom” thinking it was thunder. At the same time, the family dog came running to the front door barking. The parents went inside to find the children trying to come down the stairs…but were blocked by a large tree that came through the roof. The children were thinking their parents had been killed by the tree when they couldn’t immediately find them. (This is why it is so important for a family to be together after an event like this. This is the exact reason for the existence of the Fire Rescue House.) No one was injured, but the 3 year olds room received the most damage. Everything in his room is damaged, covered with ceiling debris, insulation, and is soaked from the storm. He is in need of clothing (4/5T) and toys. The house is a rental and while the family didn’t have renter’s insurance, the landlord does have the home insured. The contractors believe the house can be repaired, but because it hasn’t been cleared for them to go back in, they aren’t sure of the extent of damage there might be to the rest of their belongings. Red Cross put the family up in a hotel for the first few days and helped them take care of some immediate needs. This is a good family. It became very apparent to us quickly that they make sure their children come first. They are involved in school and extracurricular activities. If you can find it in your heart to help with your time, talent, or treasure….please let us know. Please pass this information along, and above all else, please remember this family in your prayers. Thanks for your continued support!
