We watched the HBO film The Normal Heart tonight. This should win the Emmy not only for the production but the acting especially Mark Rullalo who seeths with rage and impatience as Ned. This is his finest role to date. Joe Mantello soliloquy of rage in a scene is awesome. Jim Parsons is perfect as Tommy while Julia Roberts make Emma the cold hear facts foundation of the play. Matt Bomer also gives a great performance. Murphy should also walk off with an Emmy for his direction. Watching this film I remember when AIDS struck the movie industry in the 80s Many of my friends in Los Angeles died of the dread disease. I was fortunate that I never contracted AIDS why I dont know. God knows I was sleeping around.. The Normal Heart belongs among those great works both as a play and now an unforgettable television film. It is an emotionally raw and harrowing film about how thousands of fine gay men were stricken with AIDS and died from the disease before the government decided to fund groups fighting AIDS. .
