We welcomed a first-time student last night. She was clearly nervous about training and all the new stuff involved. All of us had a Day 1 sometime in our past too. The new rules, culture, foreign phrases, and giving and receiving physical contact are all well outside of our normal experience base and take a while to get used to. The act of punching someone or getting punched, even in a safe and controlled setting, can scare off many people since were traditionally told that this type of contact is a bad thing. Over time these things become our new normal and we were able to enjoy the process of learning and growing. Jennifer did a great job pushing herself out of her comfort zone, and learned that she too can do it. We look forward to watching her grow along with the rest of our students.
