We went and saw Guardians of the Galaxy tonight. Scott B REALLY liked it. I thought it was OK. Spoilers: space ladies have the best shoes!! Apparently, outer space is like DragonCon meets Lady Gaga meets jet boots. The primary bad guy has THE BEST opening sequence of getting ready to destroy the universe. Its like the morning dressing scenes from Ridicule and Dangerous Liaisons were acted out by the cast of the movie 300 dressed by the three witches from Macbeth. Talcum powder on the cuckoo-sauce bad guy space ship is gold. Which looks STUNNING on blue skin, as you might imagine. Then some stuff happened and then everyone got fantastic matching outfits and then some other stuff happened. And Glenn Close has amazing hair. And then later has even more amazing hair. #wignado then some other things happened and theres a getting dressed for battle scene which mirrors a lot of the Batman and Robin getting dressed for crime-fighting scenes: lots of buckles and blades sheathed at ankles and tight pants. btw, the composite armor/fabric/spandex clothing of some of the warriors was amazing. Id go back and see it just to really study the structure of the strong mans pants. Theyre almost like motocross pants and sports pants but meaner. Also: so many ragged hemlines on trench coats, skirts and cloaks. The ragged hemlines gave all the movement across the screen a lot of extra texture. Then there was some flying around. Then some fighting and SO MUCH asymmetric composite fur cloaks in space!! What? Imagine glamorous, multicolor-skinned cave-people wearing hooker shoes and exotic animal skins. Like the Flintstones on LSD or other high-level hallucinogens. Then there was some more fighting. The bad girl had gorgeous blue robot skin and random tech. The bad guys wore LOTS of black mascara applied liberally by wicked-witch fingers. Then they stopped fighting and someone cried and the people in the audience had feels and then the Guardians got snazzy matching space uniforms for Galaxy Guardianing. I really want to see it again to get a good study on how those space pants fit together. They must be, like, at least ten pieces of fabric per leg.
