We went for a bit of an adventure tonight. We heard that we might get to see the aurora borealis this far south, something Ive never seen in my life. So we ventured out after dinner, the whole family, to find someplace we could find the northern horizon without light pollution. We decided Hull might be the place, although the first stop near the high school was a bust because there was football game and thus giant lights. We drove around some more and found an empty lot on the ocean, facing north, without much light around. And then we turned off the car and stared at the horizon. Just above the far horizon, there was the faintest of clouds, it seemed and if you stared at the cloud you could pulses of blue light, as if lightning inside a distant thunderhead. I suppose that was it. Not quite as exciting as a full-on aurora, but enough for the kids to have an adventure.
